The orthopedic surgeon with ebony skin and big black eyes looked at the new pink cast carefully. “You are taking good care of your new pink cast,” she said. “There are no dents or cuts or holes.” Dr. Stafford looked at the ends of Aimi’s fingers and squeezed them, one by one.
“What did you do that for?” asked Aimi.
“I’m checking to make sure your fingers have good circulation,” said the doctor.
“Do they have good circulation?” asked Aimi. “Do they?”
“They certainly do,” replied Dr. Stafford. “They have good circulation.”
