Adventures of Aimi
Aimi looked at Solly. She looked at the chimpanzee’s head. She thought about his brain. She watched Solly play on the jungle gym for a long time. “Tell me about Solly,” said Aimi. “What is Solly’s brain like? Is it like mine? And how is it that you have a chimpanzee living with
you?”
“One question at a
time, young lady,” said DJ, laughing. “I’ve read about a chimpanzee’s brain. It’s about half the size of a human's brain.”
“Aimi, make your hands into fists,” said Grami. “Put them together with your thumbs on top.
That’s about the size of your brain.”
“Exactly,” said DJ. “That’s a good way to describe
the brain, Grami. Now, Aimi, put one hand behind your back. The fist you have in front of you is about the size of Solly’s brain.”
Aimi looked at her fist. Then she looked at Solly. “That’s not a very big brain,” said Aimi, “and look at all the things Solly can do on the jungle gym.” Grami and DJ both chuckled. Solly did not chuckle. He just kept playing on the jungle gym.
