Four—Secret Portrait Painter
Aimi put her two fists together again and looked at them. “My brain is bigger than Solly’s,” she said.
“I should hope so,” said DJ, smiling. “Your brain is a human brain. Just imagine all the things you can do that Solly can’t do because your brain is bigger than his. Twice as big, in fact.”
DJ kept painting. Solly kept playing on the jungle gym. Grami kept sitting in the cozy rocking chair. Aimi kept sitting quietly on the stool.
Suddenly Solly jumped off the jungle gym and stood on his head on the floor. He made funny faces. “Solly can do some things that I can’t do,” said Aimi. She watched the chimpanzee for a long time. He stood on his head for a while and then jumped onto the jungle gym and then went back to standing on his head again.
Aimi laughed and laughed.
“I wish I knew what
Solly’s brain looks like,” said Aimi.
“Solly’s brain looks something like a walnut,” said
DJ. “So does yours for that matter. Have you ever cracked a walnut from its shell?”
“Yes, I have,” said Aimi. “And sometimes I can get the walnut out all in one piece, too.”
“There you go,” said DJ. “A walnut brain. Two wrinkled halves connected by bridges.”
