upon is the only correct one and the only way God can be worshipped.
If you develop the idea that God can be worshipped only in Mecca or in Varanasi (Benares), or that the God of a particular religion is the only Living God and all other gods are insigni cant or even satanic—then you are worshipping idols and you are an idolater. If you say, “Christ is the only one who can liberate you, and if you worship Buddha or Krishna you will go to hell!”—that is a form of idolatry.
The human mind conceives of God on the basis of its own concepts, and those concepts become obstructions when you do not rise above them. You invest certain value and power in those concepts and insist that others must adopt them as well. Throughout the centuries, everyone who has adored God in a particular form has wanted the whole of humanity to do the same. But there lies a great error. Without realizing it, you are turning away from the real God and running after the illusions of God. This can make it dif cult or impossible for you to move towards God-realization.
There has been much discord in India between the people who believe God should be worshipped without form—the nirakara worshippers—and those who feel God should be worshipped with form—the sakara worshippers. Heated arguments
