The Glory of the Divine Name
Further, this commandment is intended to convey the wondrous glory of the Divine name and to encourage japa, or the repetition of that name. Repeating the Divine name, in whatever form you choose, is one of the easiest and most powerful ways to capture the Absolute. It is a miraculous string that allows you to reach out to the Divine Self and tie Him down within your very heart. Thus, the science of japa has existed in one form or another in every religion from ancient times.
When a mantra, a Divine formula or prayer, is repeated with profound feeling and understanding of what it represents, the name of God is truly glori ed. Each time the name of God is brought to mind, a thousand melodious bells should ring within your heart. Your whole body should thrill with joy. How can that be possible? If you have been starved for sugar for a long period of time and then someone reminds you of a delicious dessert, those nectarine bells will ring. The very mention of sugar will cause your mouth to water, delivering excitement and expectation. Why shouldn’t the same be possible when remembering God?
Your mental associations with the Divine name should become so intense that each time the name is brought to your mind your whole body begins to resonate with that name. Thinking about God should
