passionate con rmation of their love and has not engendered mutual respect and Divine Love for God within each other. If you make sexual pleasure predominant in a marriage, then you are overlooking the central spiritual goal of marriage and are practicing a subtle but signi cant form of in delity as well.
Seeking pleasure does not refer only to sexual delight in this context. It refers to the mind’s infatuation with all objects that are loved and to any egoistic delight that the relationship can provide. This also applies to the love between a child and his parents, between friends, and to all forms of love that exist in human life. None of these loving relationships should be considered solely as a means to a sel sh end. Rather, they should become a means of elevation, upliftment and inspiration for both parties. Your love for another passes the Divine test if you and the one you love are both led to a higher spiritual summit through your love. But if your love degrades you or your loved one in any way, there is a lack of true brahmacharya, a lack of true delity.
