Driver’s Safety Device (DSD)

The Driver Safety Device (DSD) Vigilance System is employed to ensure that the

train driver remains alert whilst he is in a position to control his vehicle.

The DSD pedal is used to verify that the driver is healthy. Normally, it must be kept

constantly depressed in order for the vehicle to be operated. Where state changes of the

system inputs do not occur within a present time interval, warning is issued to the driver,

requiring positive action to prevent the system subsequently applying the emergency brakes.

Warning Horns

Warning Horns are installed at the outer ends of each unit and are controlled from

either pilot control valve in the adjacent cab.
