408 Squadron demonstrated their Bell CH-146 Griffon multi-roll helicopter.
To add a bit of comedy to the show, the RCMP put on a performance of their own, chasing a vehicle at high
speed down the runway. Later a helicopter appeared with the car suspended from it. Approaching centre
stage and to everyone’s surprise, the car was dropped from about 200 feet. To enhance the act, a huge
explosion went off by pyrotechnics as the car hit the ground.
The show continued with Conair Aerial Firefighting
demonstrating aerial firefighting with their Convair
CV580 Airtanker and Turbo Commander TC-690
“Birddog”. It was a real treat to see the airtanker
drop red fire retardant in the trees beyond the
runway.
