1. Executive Summary
The Motor Trades Association of Australia (MTAA) calls on the Federal
Government to commit to serious policy reform in partnership with the
MTAA , Members and wider automotive sector to:
▪ Attract, train, retain and skill people to meet the maintenance and
repair requirements of a 20 million strong national vehicle fleet.
▪ Maximise the business environment to innovate, increase productivity,
and meet the challenges of advancing technology, new propulsion
systems, convergence of mobility and communications, autonomy, and
changing consumer behaviours and business model.
▪ Reform policy and regulations through the creation of a government
and industry partnership to deliver improved consumer confidence and
address critical issues impacting the automotive sector and Australia’s
reliance on road transport.
▪ Invest in the infrastructure, programs and projects that assure
Australians’ ongoing reliance on road transport.
The following document outlines the MTAA policy priorities and specific
initiatives for the next Australian Government.
