TRUE  PATRIOTISM,

                             T    T H A T   is  patriotism ?   Is  it  a  narrow   affection  for  th e   spot  where
                              xSL     a  llian  "-as  b o r n ?    A r e   the  very  clods  w h ere  we  tread
                                      entitled  to  this  ardent  preference  because  th ey   arc  g r e e n e r ?
                             N o,  s i r :  Lius  is  not  th e   character  o f  th e  virtue,  rind  it  soars  h igher  for
                             its  object.   I t   is  an  extended  self-love,  m ingling with  all  the en joym ents
