Then the pitying  people  hurried from  their  homes  and  thronged  the
                                     beach,
                             O il!  for power to  cross the  waters  ;ind  the perishing  to  reach !
                             Helpless  hands  were wrung  tor  sorrow,  tender hearts  grew  cold  with
                                     dread,
                             And  the  ship,  urged  by  the tempest,  to  the  fatal  rock  shore  sped.


                             -1 She  hs;  parted in  tiie  middle!   Oh,  the half  of  her  goes  down!
                             God h;:ve  mercy!     Is  lieu veil  far  to  seek for  those  who  drown?”
                             L o !  when next the  white,  shocked faces  looked  with  terror on the sea,
                             Only  one  last  clinging figure  on  Hie  spar  was  seen  to  be,


                             Nearer tie  trembling watchers  came  the wreck,  tossed  by the wave,
                             And the  man  still  clung and  flouted,  though  no  power  on  earth  could
                                     save,
                             " Cor;Id  we  send  hirvi  a  short  message?     Here's  a  trumpet.   Shout



                             'Twas the  preachers  hand  that took  it,  and  he  wondered  what  to  say.

                             A-:y  memory  of  his  sermon?     Firstly?  Secondly?        Ah,  no!
                             1  here  was  but  one  tiling  to utter  hi the  awful  hour  of  w oe;

                             So he  shouted  th ro u g h   the trumpet.  st Look  to  Jesus !  Can you hear ?”
                             And  f‘  Aye,  aye,  s i r ! ”  rang the  answer  o'er  the  waters  loud and clear.
