 • GSMA – Girls in ICT Day, Trinidad and Tobago
CANTO, in conjunction with the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad & Tobago (TATT) and GSMA, USA hosted a Girls in ICT Day Workshop titled, “Tech Savvy Girls” in commemoration of the ITU’s International Girls in ICT Day.
The event took place in April, 2019 at TATT’s Head office located at #5 Eighth Avenue Extension, off Twelfth Street Barataria. All three of CANTO Full Members based in Trinidad & Tobago, namely C&W, Digicel & TSTT partnered and sponsored the event. The Girls gained coding and AI experience by building and coding a Google VoiceKit. Also, students were exposed to a mini career fair and gained insights from one on one interactions with representatives of participating ICT companies.
• GSMA – Invitation for CANTO members to join GSMA Regional Interest Group and the Women4Tech Working Groups.
The GSMA has invited CANTO members to join their Regional Interest Group (RIG), Technical Working Group. The RIG is a technical working group helping members with the deployment of solutions and to elevate problems to other organizations like 3GPP and the GSMA Global Technical Group.
The Secretariat believed it would be beneficial to get a CANTO- MNO representative to attend the GSMA RIG. The RIG holds several Technical Workshops during the year and, as a CANTO member, will get an opportunity to network and benefit from the capacity building initiatives.
The Secretary General was invited to attend GSMA’s Women4Tech Summit and the opening of the RIG Workshop in May in Chicago. The Secretary General used the opportunity t to network and solicit leads for CANTO 2019.
