Certified Debtor Advocate must be careful not to take on too much responsibility
for the client. Rather than “take on” this responsibility for them, empower and
support your clients to do what they can do, wherever possible.
Over-caretaking or rescuing efforts can be a compensation pattern due to an
advocates own fears, which may stem from a need to justify their fees. This is a
an ineffective strategy that deepens dependency and may create challenging
expectations.
