  KEY INSTAGRAM STRATEGIES
Engage: When you post, especially when you’re building your brand, this is the most important time to focus on this. Set aside 30-60 minutes to engage and make connections. If you’re posting and not actually responding to people who comment on your post, it won’t encourage them to comment again. It’s important to engage with comments. It’s also important to comment on other people’s posts. If you take the time to do this, you are making connections and supporting others who will support you as well. Don’t post at a time when you aren't available to respond and connect with others.
Show yourself: People want to get to know YOU. You are ultimately the face of
your brand, and at the end of the day there are so many different people in beauty. The best businesses are the ones that have a face to the brand. Allow your followers and clients to get to know you. Pick 4-5 different topics to include on your feed so that your followers learn to know you for more than just makeup. Then filter through the different topics on a weekly basis so you can add more value to your feed and attract new people into your world.
Stop comparing yourself: Use other people as your motivation but don’t get down on yourself if you aren’t at the same number of followers that someone else may be at. It’s a tough industry, so be happy for others, and know that everything in life that is meant to be for you will happen if it is meant to be.
Build a Community: Create online friends! Once again, if you support others, they will support you too! This helps your engagement (which is what brands what to see).
Ask a question and ask people to tag a friend: This is a great way to create more engagement on your post. For example, if I post an image of myself on vacation, ask “where do you want to go next?” or “what’s your favourite vacation spot?". Tis will
entice your viewer to write a comment when they might have just skipped your post before.
Collaborate: Collaborating with other people is the best way to reach other people’s audiences. Find people with similar or even bigger followers and collaborate to gain exposure. You could even offer to do someone’s makeup for free who has a large following in exchange for them posting a photo of your work and tagging you.
Instagram Handle: Your Instagram handle should be catchy, easy to remember, and short and sweet. Make it as easy as possible for people to look you up and remember you. For example, if you’re starting out on Instagram and you have a long or difficult name to spell, try using just your first name and ‘beauty’ or ‘makeup’ beside it. This will make it easier for people to remember you. Also, make sure that your name is the same on all platforms.
Explore Page: To get on the explore page you need to do your research. See what is working, and what hashtags are being used. Search something that is relevant to you, then look at the people whose posts come up at the top of the discovery page, and check the hashtags that they used. Then, use some of those hashtags in your post that is on the same topic. This is not copying, it is modeling. Do not copy someone’s exact content.
Profile Picture: Use a high-resolution image so that it is clear and easy to see.
Try to use a picture of your face in your profile image. This is because it will make it easier
for people to find you.
