You can form a loop at the end of a line with a bowline, but it’s not nearly as strong as an
eye splice. And when it comes to beauty, there’s no contest between a bulky knot and a
symmetrical splice.
(1) Whip the rope (optional) about 6 inches from the end and unravel the strands labeled A
B C . (2) Form a loop (eye) and begin the splice, weaving the strands through as
illustrated.
