Then his smile gets bigger, “So next month, when your cousin Kevin comes to visit, you might
want to remember what I’m telling you.”
Jaxon feels his eyes get a little tickly. “Wow, D-d-dr. King you helped make m-m-my world a
better place, and n-n-now…” Jaxon stopped and took a breath. “Now you’re helping me with my
new magic. I want to do a great job being you in the play, but I-I-I’m afraid my stuttering will get
in the way of your great words.”
“Jaxon, don’t worry about the play, you’re going to do just fine.” Dr. King pauses for a moment
and looks up. Then he looks right at Jaxon and says, “This reminds me of something I once said.
Please remember this: ‘Be a bush if you can’t be a tree. If you can’t be a highway, just be a trail.
If you can’t be a sun, be a star. For it isn’t by size that you win or fail. Be the best of whatever you
               are.’”

After that, Dr. King disappears right before Jaxon’s eyes. Poof! He vanishes.
“Wait! Don’t go yet!” Jaxon calls out. He is not ready for Dr. King to leave. He has so many
questions. And how is being a bush or a trail going to help him in the play?
Jaxon just stands there, in the middle of the living room, gazing at the space where Dr. King
had been standing. Then he steps into the space where Dr. King was, hoping to feel something.
He doesn’t know what. Just something.
