Magic in the Front Yard
JAXON IS STILL stunned that Dr. King was in his house a minute ago. He was actually talking to
him.
He wishes he could tell someone, and then he spots Gran’s old phone sitting on the table. He
decides to call his dad to tell him about his day and to make sure he’ll still be home around noon.
He picks up the part of the phone you put by your ear and talk into and laughs to himself because
he actually remembers how to use it. He reaches down to the other part on the table and dials
the number to his dad’s office.
When his dad answers, Jaxon starts talking very fast.
“Hey Dad, sorry to bother you at work. But it’s really been an awesome morning. I found out
the necklace Gran gave me is magic! And I’ve been meeting and talking to Black people from
history, Dad!”
“Jaxon, are you okay?”
“Yeah Dad, I’ve never been better.”
“I’m sorry son, but I have to get to a meeting, like now. We’ll talk more when I get home. I
promise I’ll be home by noon.” Jaxon hears the click of his dad hanging up.
