Summer Spanish in the Andes

COURSES HOUSING & TRAVEL

11-Week Program Courses: Course placement dependent Housing: While in Cuenca, Ecuador, students
upon prior study of Spanish or placement exam. live with local families. Students are housed 1
per family, with private rooms. Each family is
Spanish 150 (9 credits): Beginning Spanish carefully vetted and complete an orientation
Equivalent to Augustana’s Spanish 101-102-103. program to prepare them to host our students.
No prerequisite. Recommended for students with one
semester or less of college Spanish. Excursions: The 11-week program includes
excursions to Quito, Otavalo, the Oriente,
Spanish 250 (9 credits): Intermediate Spanish Peru (Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu) and
Equivalent to Augustana’s 201-202-203. Prerequisite is several towns in the vicinity of Cuenca. The
Spanish 103 or two semesters of college Spanish. 11-week program includes only the Quito,
Otavalo and local excursions.
Spanish 350 (9 credits): Advanced Spanish
Equivalent to Spanish 301, 327 and 3 credits of 300 CONTACT: For program information,
level elective. Prerequisite is Spanish 203 or four including date of departure & return,
semesters of college Spanish. please contact the WLLC Spanish
Dept. program coordinator or the
Upper –Level Literature & Culture Electives IOP Director.

Available to any student who has completed Panama hats

Art 343SA: Art of the Americas (PA/G): Weeks 1-5
A 3-credit Art course taught in Spanish and English.
Study the major modes of artistic expression in Andean
culture.

Spanish 458: Indigenous Culture & Literature (PH)
Weeks 1-5. Equivalent to Spanish 344 for majors and
minors at Augustana. 3 credits.

Spanish 454: Latin American History (PP)
Weeks 6-11. Equivalent to Spanish 326 for majors and
minors at Augustana. 3 credits.

Spanish 457: Contemporary Latin Am. Society:
Weeks 6-11. Equivalent to Spanish 327 for majors and
minors at Augustana. 3 credits.
