We’re committed to extending engage-
ment with the legacy of anti-apartheid
to the broadest possible audiences. 73%
of our participants identify as Global
Majority (UK averages are under 40%
            for arts/cultural engagement); 32% of
our audiences and 80% of programme
participants are under 25. 75% of our
schools are in areas of high levels of
            deprivation and pupil premium.
            Our participation programmes focus on
five “priority participant” groups: Young Architects Al-Jawad Pike’s impression of renovated
People and formal education (2-18), building, with extension at rear (planning permission
Youth-focused Programming (12-29), granted) shown in dark grey ceilings.
            Global Majority/1st generation migrant
and sanctuary seekers, Elders (70+), and hyperlocal communities (within 2km radius).
Additionally, we engage special interest groups like academics, activists, students,
and heritage/cultural enthusiasts. The Centre will be available for corporate tailored
            programming and hire.

            Our Need

Our project is at a pivotal moment. Project costs total £3.48m; the Centre and its 2025-
28 programming are 89%+ funded, thanks to the generous support of funders including
the National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Mayor of London, City Bridge Foundation, and
Islington Council. However, to ensure the Centre’s future we must secure a remaining
£350,000 match-funding during 2024. This will enable us to upscale our programme,
commence building work, and achieve our vision of transforming 28 Penton Street
into a 260m2 high-quality, fully accessible indoor and outdoor engagement space.
Redeveloping Penton Street is central to achieving five core outcomes: transforming the
space into a vibrant hub for community engagement, unlocking awareness of international
anti-apartheid history, reaching 50,000 people annually (onsite and online), supporting
resilient future communities, and securing the Centre as a long-term community resource.

We welcome the support of South African Chamber of Commerce UK members, at
any level, to help us achieve our goals. Branding opportunities and donor recognition
within the Centre, as well as Corporate Social Responsibility partnerships, are
available. SACC members are invited to contact Caroline Kamana, Director of The
Liliesleaf Trust UK, on info@antiapartheidlegacy.org.uk to discuss opportunities. For
those individuals who wish to donate to the project, they are most welcome to do so
via the trust’s website or by contacting Caroline.

Together, let’s continue the fight for justice, equality, and solidarity.
