Stitch and Seize
It can be very difficult to make a
permanent loop at the end of a piece
of braided rope. By first stitching the
rope together, then putting a tight
seizing over the stitching, a strong eye
can be made. You will need to use a
sailmaker’s palm and needle to make
the stitches. It is a very good idea to
make an extra locking stitch halfway
along the binding turns as additional
security. Should one part break, the
other half of the seizing should hold
long enough to allow a repair to be
made. As always, make all the binding
turns as tight as possible.
