Take the right-hand strand and pass this under the heart and over the
left-hand strand (figure 99.1). Now take the left-hand strand over the
heart and through the bight on the right, drawing it tight to complete the
second knot (figure 99.2). Repeat these two knots in sequence, continuing
until you reach the length that you want.
Portuguese sennit (spiral): very similar to the flat Portuguese sennit (see
page 128), being made by following the same method identically up to
the completion of the first knot, when the left-hand strand is passed
under the heart (figure 100.1) and over the right-hand strand, while the
right-hand strand is crossed over the heart and through the bight on the
left. Draw tight the working strands to complete the second knot (figure
100.2). The knotting can be repeated, always using the left-hand strand
first so that you will find that the spiral will develop automatically.
