It is best traditionally described:
Left over right – twist through
Right over left – twist through Haul tight.
NB: in America, this knot is known as the square knot.
Reeve: the act of passing the end of a rope through any aperture.
Riding turns: a second layer of turns, formed evenly and snugly though
not so tightly that they force themselves into the first layer.
Rigger’s bend see hunter’s bend.
Rolling hitch or Magner’s hitch or Magnus hitch: related to the clove
hitch (see page 40) but more secure, being designed to take a lengthwise
pull. It is often used to secure a smaller line to a thicker rope, and when so
employed it should be tied against the lay of the rope that it is tied
around.
Take a round turn around the spar, and follow this with a turn between
the round turn and the standing part (figure 103.1) before finishing in the
same way as you would normally finish a clove hitch (figure 103.2).
