However, the sun finally came out in August and the lake dropped enough to remove the slow
water restriction. But it was too late, our sales that season dropped 15%.
Again, we usually see a 6” rise/fall in lake level over the course of a year. But within 25 years
we went from 925.4 to 931.11 a 6 foot spread! That can be devastating, but we did survive.
What did we learn? Nature will always surprise you. However, when you sign year round
contracts and receive payment prior to the season, you are less at the mercy of the weather.
However, as in the case of the “dock on the dock” you must to be willing to accommodate the
weather and provide an enjoyable boating experience.
During the low water crisis we removed the stick dock
(right) and replaced with a floating dock (left). Due to the
low water we received a special permit to push the dock
out 200’. On the left you can see we kept the old walkway
from the permanent dock to attach to the floating dock.
Under this temporary situation, the first slips of the new
dock began at the actual end of the old dock!
The bottom right photo shows the staging area of the new
dock. We had lots and lots of barrels on our shore! The
dock was assembled on the launching ramp and floated
into position as you can see in the photo bottom left.
