I will always remember Mama and Mami driving from Stourbridge to Leicester to take me shopping to buy my manavera saree.
We will desperately miss him at our daughter Varahini’s wedding in January, but will hold on to the beautiful memories. The most recent being our visit to Sri Lanka in June 2016 when we spent time with him at his lovely house in Jaffna.

He was the only ‘Grandfather’ we knew. The weekends in Stourbridge were treats for all of us. He would take us on his lawn tractor, sneakily offering us a taste of Babycham or joining us in a game of carrom or scrabble
Whether it be with his witty and youthful humour or his prowess on the
dance floor, Grandmama always brought great joy to our lives. Last year
during our first trip to Sri Lanka, we were fortunate to have spent some
quality time with him in his house in Jaffna. The knowledge, stories and
memories he shared will remain with us forever.

But what I remember the most is learning to play carrom with Grandmama — and the proper way to hit the striker. There were some serious fights among us to have Grandmama on our team as that was to ensure victory.
His joy for life was undeniable in the way he lived day to day and was felt by all. A joy that will continue to live on with all of us.
