Islam: Peace & Non-Violence
All Divine revelations focus on elucidating the needs of humanity. They teach the way of
wisdom, gracious dialogue and good reasoning in resolving ideological differences rather
O than adopting the paths of violence and force. The message of Islam, as considered by
Muslims, is seen to be and understood as the pinnacle of all divine revelations. Islam
u champions the concepts of justice, charity and the principles of peace & non-violence.
These concepts are evident from Qur’an. For example, we find the following verses directly
referring to these issues:
r "Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with
them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed
from His Path, and who receive guidance..." (Holy Quran 16:25)
"Repel evil with that which is best: We are well acquainted with the things they say…"
I (Holy Quran 23:96)
But seek, with the (wealth) which God has bestowed on thee, the Home of the Hereafter,
d nor forget thy portion in this world: but do thou good, as God has been good to thee, and
seek not (occasions for) mischief in the land: for God loves not those who do mischief".
(Holy Quran 28: 77)
e Not only are these verses an evidence for the renunciation of violence and corruption, the
adoption of wisdom and good counseling, but also demonstrate the sublime principles of
n engagement with fellow humans that the religion of Islam champions in order to establish a
society on pure humanitarian values that are free from impurities and falsehood.
t Although these concepts along with many other concepts have been marred by some due
to their misunderstandings and wrong interpretations and also because of the actions of
i radical Islamic sects who have taken recourse to violence and terrorism, which are contrary
to the core values and the true message that is immortalized in the Holy Quran, which
teaches the Muslims to follow the example of the household of the Prophet Mohammad
t – the Ahl al-Bayt. Peace be upon them, who are the divine leaders who champion the
principles of guidance, justice, and charity. Those who love and follow Ahl al-Bayt, peace
y be upon them, take upon themselves the responsibility to uphold these principles because
they do not deem it right that the message of the rights of fellow human beings should be
undermined, and such a responsible attitude is in accord with very essence of the religious
teachings and principles of Islam.
