First-Time Campers
First-time campers are very special to us. We do what it takes to help our first-time campers enjoy a warm and
wonderful experience. Before camp, we talk with you and your child to prepare you both for this exciting adventure.
Our head counselors contact all first-time campers before the season begins. On top of that, we ask that all of our
campers write letters to our counselors to tell them who they are. Also, the more you share with us about your
camper, the better prepared we will be. We encourage you and your child to visit the camp beforehand, if possible.
We will have a “Spring Fling” orientation on Saturday, June 9 from 12-4pm for all campers and parents.
During camp, each child receives extra attention from their cabin counselors who check in with her/him regularly to
make sure that adjustment to camp-life is on track. Each cabin is a mix of returning campers and new campers. With
this set up it is only natural that returning campers assist new campers in the daily routines. It is not long before it’s
hard to tell who is on their first summer, and who has been at camp for years.
After camp we will stay in touch with you via e-mail and snail-mail from camp. Campers can exchange information to
continue their new friendships throughout the year.
A Note to All Campers
Hey Campers-Our counselors love to hear
about who you are before you get here!
What better way to let your counselors
know a little about you than to write
them a letter and telling them? There is a
form to get you started on our web site
at myGWT. Please print that out and fill
it in and then add anything else you
want! Please send a recent photo with
your letter so your counselors can get to
know you a bit before you arrive. Your
letter will be opened and shared with
your counselors at camp during Staff
Training Week. Afterward, we will keep
your letters with your papers in the Life At Camp
office. Actually, many of our counselors
don’t get much mail all summer so this Campers will be living in cabins (also called bunks) with other
