7. Courtesy removal
Have you ever forgotten to pay a bill and once you paid it, the
bill was already 30 days? If yes, don’t feel bad, many of us have.
However here’s a little secret. Many banks and creditors will
do a courtesy removal if you ask.
Here’s what you should do, call the company, speak with a
representative, explain, life happened, you fell behind as a
mere oversight and now you're looking to make some moves
however this late is adversely affecting your credit report and
will they remove it? Some companies will say “Yes” right away,
others will say, “No.” Don’t be afraid to ask for a manager. The
first representative you speak with is trained and likely to say
no, take it a step further until you get someone on the phone
who has the ability to say yes. You’d be surprised at the help
you may receive if you're not easily discouraged after hearing
no. Yes, you heard me correct, some companies will remove
the late payments from your credit report if the activity is not
common. If you have to take it a step further, ask to speak with
their credit reporting team.
This is generally where the magic happens. Explain, life
happened and this removal will help tremendously. In some
cases they may request a mailed or faxed letter, and some
cases the removal can happen by phone. Here’s a sample
below of how the letter should appear.
