FROM THE CHIEF OF THE CORPS
Finance and Comptroller Teammates,
It’s been 7 months since taking the helm as the 43rd Commandant of the
Finance and Comptroller School (FCS) and Chief of the Finance Corps, and I am
very pleased with the outstanding work, professionalism, and commitment of the
FCS staff (MIL & CIV). There is still a lot of work to be done given our new Force
Structure, looking further into what capabilities are needed to support the
Army of the Future, and how to better our leadership development and
mentorship programs for our junior leaders, both NCOs and Officers. The
strategy to enhance leadership development and mentorship for junior leaders
is crucial for long-term success.
COL LE’IATO
The FCS and the FM community at large have been busy the last few months
preparing and executing the FC Force Design Update (FDU) Table-top (TTX) Exercise at Fort
Gregg-Adams, which resulted in identifying gaps and shortfalls that required bridging strategies.
The execution of the FC TTX went well, and I was very pleased with the level of participation and
collaboration from AC, RC, and NG leaders. It was no small feat to navigate the complexities of
FDU to ensure the FC is prepared to support the Army of the future. During Regimental Week (23-
25 APR), we will have breakout sessions to discuss problem sets that stemmed from the FC TTX
and provide recommended solutions to our FC Senior Leaders.
As the Army continues to push for data-centric organizations and given the current fiscal
environment, FCS (MIL & CIV) is developing strategies to take ownership of training with limited
use of data education external to the Army. Given this guidance, FCS worked diligently with
CASCOM to secure one Data Analytics (DA) Training with Industry (TWI) officer slot which is
awaiting Combined Arms Center’s approval. The DA TWI utilization tour will be at FCS as an
instructor and/or developer. FCS will continue working with CASCOM to secure another DA TWI
slot for NCOs. Furthermore, FCS will leverage ASA(FM&C) and CASCOM data analytics subject
matter experts to assist with the development and sustainment of our data literacy training.
FCS is now nested with USAFMCOM and ASA(FM&C) in providing updates to the Army Financial
Management Campaign Plan in support of the Army’s continuous transformation, focusing on the
following: Enable the financial management workforce with tools and training; effectively resource
the Army; achieve and maintain a favorable audit opinion; improve Army business processes and
internal control environment; and leverage data to improve army operations.
Finally, thank you to the Finance Corps Association for the selfless and endless support provided
to the entire enterprise. Let's keep driving towards excellence and success for our FM community.
To Support and Serve,
1
