ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM - EGR VALVE POSITION SENSOR 11-47

                 EGR VALVE POSITION SENSOR 11

                 HOW IT WORKS

The EGR valve position sensor is located in the EGR valve assembly. The engine control
module (ECM) controls the EGR valve, which turn on and off under different operating
conditions. The EGR valve is switched on and off by a DC motor, which receives the voltage
from the ECM by the EGR valve motor signals (+) and (-) circuitry. The motor opens the EGR
valve when receiving the voltage from the EGR valve motor signal (+) circuit. The motor
closes the EGR valve when receiving the voltage from the EGR valve motor signal (-) circuit.
The engine control module (ECM) uses the EGR valve position sensor to determine whether
the EGR valve conforms to the instruction position. ECM provides the 5V voltage to the EGR
valve position signal circuit, and then the EGR valve position sensor outputs a voltage signal
to the ECM according to the position of the valve. ECM converts this signal to a percentage
of 0% to 100%, indicating the position of the valve. The valve is fully opened, equivalent to
                 100%.
