COOLING - WATER PUMP 17-15

WATER PUMP

OVERHAUL
1 . Switch off the ignition.
2 . Open the engine hood.
3 . Wait until the engine cools down.
4 . Drain the coolant. (Refer to "Chapter 05 Vehicle maintenance - Replacement,
coolant replacement")
5 . Remove the engine accessory belt. (Refer to "Chapter 15 Engine mechanical
system - engine accessory belt, overhaul")

6 . crew out the water fixing pump, and take
off the water pump. 17

7 . Water pump overhaul:
(a) Remove the water pump gasket.
(b) Clean contact surface of the water pump and the engine block.
CAUTION

• Carefully clean the water pump gasket residue and impurities. Never damage
the contact surface of the water pump and the engine block.

(b) Check the water pump. Replace a new one in case of unusual situations:

• Check water pump and coolant leakage trace should not be seen.
• Rotate water pump shaft and free rotation is felt.
• Rotate water pump shaft. Clearance should not be felt and abnormal noise
should not be heard.
8 . Install a new water pump gasket.
