8 . Remove the Driven Gear
(a) Unscrew the retaining bolts of the driven gear.

(b) Remove the driven gear.

9 . Check the Gear Side Clearance between
Half Axle Gear and Planetary Gear
(a) Measure the gear side clearance between the 34
half axle gear and planetary gear with a dial
indicator.
Gear side clearance between half axle gear
and planetary gear:

If the clearance exceeds the limit, check the
end clearance of the half axle gear. (Refer to
"Chapter 34. Axle & transmission shaft - rear
differential assembly, check & adjustment")

CAUTION

Hold the half axle gear and the planetary gear
close to the differential housing, fix any of the
two gears and measure the central point of the
other gear surface. Ensure the head of the dial
indicator is vertical to the measured gear
surface. Measure all four gears at three or more
points on each gear.
