DIAGNOSTICS - ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM 04-291
THE STARTER ROTATES BUT THE MOTOR CAN’T START 04
Fault phenomenon Diagnosis logic Possible reasons
• Injector faulty
• Air leak in intake system
• Too low fuel pressure
• Air filter blocked
• Injector • Coolant temperature sensor
• Intake system faulty
• Fuel system • Intake mass flow sensor
• Coolant temperature sensor faulty
The starter rotates but the
• Intake mass flow sensor • Electronic throttle valve
motor can’t start
• Injection timing faulty
• Intake heater • Fuel filter blocked
• Exhaust system • Injection timing incorrect
• ECM • Intake heater faulty
• Too low cylinder
compression pressure
• Exhaust system blocked
• ECM faulty
Diagnosis Procedure
1 . Check the motor data
(a) Ignition switch: OFF
(b) Connect the diagnosis tool with the fault diagnosis connector (16 pins) on the lower
left of the dashboard.
(c) Ignition switch: Turn on the ignition switch, and start the diagnostic tool.
(d) Read the motor data shown on the diagnostic tool.
Check whether the data ow is normal or not.
YES>To step 2.
No >Maintenance related faults.
2 . Check the intake system
(a) Check whether the air filter is blocked.
(b) Check whether intake system pipe is air leak.
(c) Check whether turbocharger works properly
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>To step 3.
No >Maintenance related faults.
3 . Check intake heater and the circuit
(a) Check whether intake heater is damaged.
(b) Check whether intake heater circuit is normal.
