Emily Booth Langworthy, for whom George composed the
above poem, was the daughter of the radical Baptist missionary
Joseph Booth, an early inspiration and mentor to John
Chilembwe. George Shepperson also wrote the introduction to
Emily Booth Langworthy’s too often overlooked little book,
This Africa was Mine, pub. Stirling Tract Enterprise, 1952,
which describes her life as a child in British Central Africa
when a young John Chilembwe became her carer.
