P. 16

  What Needs to Be Done
 Post Play
• Sharpen Joel’s moves in the post.
• Does he want to add new moves? If so, which ones?
• Improve discipline on post ups. Teach him to sit lower, post with hips and butt, show
hands, and don’t push off. Show him on film and make him do it perfect in individual
workouts.
• Improve balance and lower center of gravity. Force him to sit down lower, Yoga, basketball
yoga, and focus in the weight room with Todd Wright.
• Must value the ball more. Avoid low level plays and homerun plays. Don’t be careless. Joel
will be held accountable through the study of his turnovers in the post throughout the
season.
• Improve against post double. Study other team’s tendencies, survey the floor on the catch,
see the help, use retreat dribble.
 Catch and Shoot
• Improve discipline on follow through and landing. Stay with the shot and stick the landing. Hold Joel accountable in workouts by demanding perfection. Study his shots after games.
Show him his percentages drop when he does not have discipline.
• Improve footwork going into his shot. Make him aware of him losing balance by not putting
right heel on the ground at times. Demand it during workouts. Study game film to make
sure it carries over.
• Discuss other problems with rest of the staff. How much change do we want or think he
can handle?
a
 Drives
• Footwork and balance. Make his jab closer and softer. Bring his shoulder back so he does not fall over. Gradually improve speed in workouts as his pivot foot stop sliding.
• Understand when to drive and when not to. Are they playing him for the drive or the shot? Attack closeouts but stay away from driving set defender in early shot clock.
 Ball Screens
• Improve Pick and Pop 3s to force closeouts and open up driving opportunities. Bunch of reps making sure he has proper footwork, balance and technique. Make him feel confident about those shots.
