My A2 project was a product to address the problem of hot air being trapped in high ceilings and thus not
felt by the occupants. A system was needed to push the air back down to the useable space where the
user could then benefit from its heat and also save costs on heating as less air needed to be heated due to
the recirculation of the air. The solution for this issue was a low speed but very high displacement fan that
could push the air back down in large stokes. The fan was powered by a small 5volt motor with a large
reduction drive. The fan was also intelligent and detected the air temperature and switched itself on when
the temperature was too high comparative to the ground. The fan also had a built in cool function for
summer allowing it to operate as a conventional fan. This product is completely new in the ceiling fan
market and has only scraped the surface of a potential large customer base as more and more old
buildings such as barns and warehouses are renovated for homes and restaurants with huge vaulted
ceilings which are very expensive to heat. The product is also an environmental step forward in its
electronics with low voltage and current systems as well as the benefit through reserving oil and other
heating fuels.
