My project is a fixed wing autonomous aircraft to be used by lifeboats in order to aid the successful

location and rescue of water borne survivors. It is designed to be launched and retrieved

autonomously, using simple to use autopilot software.

The aircraft is designed to be hand launched from the side of a boat. It carries multiple cameras,

radio systems and supports different camera configurations. It can fly a set search pattern, or circle

a point of interest autonomously whilst the operator uses a live video link to search for the missing

person. Once the person is located, its GPS position is sent back to the lifeboat, and recorded. The

lifeboat can then go and recover the missing person, without wasting time attempting a search.
