MRS. ARLENE CECELIA BUTLER CHEARS
A celebration of the life, love, and service for Mrs. Ar- lene Cecelia Butler Chears, who entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, willbeheldat11a.m.onSat- urday, September 5, 2015 at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1203 Nebraska Av- enue, Tampa, Father Stephan Brown, officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Me- morial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Chears was preceded in death by: her father, Henry A. Butler; her mother, Beat- rice Skipper Dixon; her step- father, Leroy P. Dixon; her husband, Sgt. Walter L. Chears; and her daughter-in- law, Yvette Montgomery.
Arlene was raised in New York City before moving as a teenager to East Tampa with her parents. A popular high school student and ma- jorette, she graduated from Middleton High School in 1957, and attended Texas Southern University. Earning her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas – Pan American, Arlene later re- ceived her Master’s Degree in Education and Administra- tion at the University of South Florida.
She fulfilled her passion for teaching by serving as an Instructor and Administrator at Just Middle School, Webb Middle School, and Greco Middle School. She retired as an Assistant Principal from Buchanan Middle School. She also served as a swim- ming instructor and life- guard at Cyrus Greene Pool.
Arlene was an active and devoted member of Gamma Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church.
She was a devoted daugh- ter, wife, mother, grand- mother, great grandmother, cousin, teacher, and friend.
Arlene served as a mentor for numerous youth in the Tampa Bay area and as a god- mother to several godchil- dren. She thoroughly enjoyed her family, friends, shopping, gourmet cooking, get-togeth- ers with friends and family, music, dancing, and bid- whist.
She leaves to cherish mem- ories of her with: two sons, Apostle William A. Mont- gomery (Tampa), and Tyrone Christopher Montgomery (Houston, Texas); the father of her children and life-long friend, Howard L. Mont- gomery (Houston, Texas); 6 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; cousins; seven godsons and daugh-
ters; as well as many ex- tended family members and devoted friends.
Mrs. Chears’ remains will repose from 5-8 p. m., Fri- day, September 4, 2015, at Wilson Funeral Home, with the family present from 6-7 p. m. and fraternal rites by Gamma Theta Omega Chap- ter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at 7 p. m.
Friends are asked to as- semble at the church on Sat- urday at approximately 10:45 a. m. for the service.

CORNELIUS GEORGE JOHNSON
Funeral service for Cor- nelius George Johnson, age 17, who passed away on Au- gust 22, 2015, will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015, at 2 p. m. at Grace Family Church – Temple Terrace, 8610 Temple Terrace High- way, Temple Terrace, FL, with Pastor Frankie Mercado, officiating. Interment will fol- low in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Cornelius was preceded in death by: his father, Ray- mond Johnson; maternal grandmother, Deborah Har- ris; and fraternal grand- mother, Patsy Britt.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his mother, LaKisha Nicole Story, and husband, Wayne Carlton Story; brother, Raymond George Roosevelt Johnson; sister, Chavontesha Nicole Johnson; maternal grandfather, Fred- die Leon Thomas; fraternal grandfather, Raymond John- son, Sr.; uncle, Nigel Davis and wife, Erin Davis; first cousins, Amilia Davis, Aieran Davis and Aria-Elizabeth Davis; and a host of great aunts, and great uncles, great greats aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
Cornelius Johnson was born in Tampa, to the parent- age of LaKisha Nicole Story and Raymond Johnson. He was a student at West Univer- sity Charter High School and was a high honor roll student throughout the school year. During his extra time he was dedicated to track and field, football, soccer, and basket- ball while in public school earning many awards throughout his life. He also dedicated his time at the Dream Center playing basket- ball and encouraging others.
Cornelius attended Grace Family Church.
There will be a viewing on Friday, September 4, 2015, from 5-8 p. m. at Wilson Fu- neral Home. Friends are asked to assemble at the church on Saturday at ap- proximately 1:45 p. m. for the service.

MRS. EVELYN JONES PEDLAR
Homegoing celebration for Mrs. Evelyn Jones Ped- lar, who passed away

Mrs. Pedlar leaves to mourn her passing with: son, Oscar Lee Mayes, Jr. and wife, Carol of San Antonio, FL, and their children, Jef- frey Allan Mayes (wife, Renee) and their children, Sarah, Damon and Jonathan of Antioch, TN, Anthony Mayes (wife, Katiria) their children, Carlos, Anthony and Hannah of Tampa, Misha Buckley and her chil- dren, and Ashleigh and Daphne of San Antonio, FL; son, Orville Pedlar (Jacque- lyn) and their children, Howard, Christopher, Stephen of Largo, Maryland, and Joyce Pedlar Linton and her children, Bruce and Kar- leen of Philadelphia, Penn- sylvania; brother Robert Lee Jones of Halycondale, Geor- gia; and a host of many other relatives and godchildren.
Mrs. Evelyn Jones Pedlar was born in Halycondale, Georgia, a small community between Sylvania and States- boro, to the parentage of Richard and Emma Jones. She was the third child of eight children, five boys and three girls.
At age fourteen she visited her uncle and aunt in Tampa. Upon her return to Georgia, she carried fond memories of the Sunshine State. As a young adult she married and had one child, Oscar Lee Mayes, Jr. and moved to Tampa. She later married John Pedlar, who preceded her in death.
Within this union they had four children, thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She worked at W. T. Ed- wards Tuberculosis Hospital until it closed, then worked at USF Mental health facility until her retirement.
There will be a viewing on Saturday from 10-11 a. m. prior to the service at St. James United Methodist Church at Tampa Palms.
Friends are asked to as- semble at the church at ap- proximately 10:45 a. m., Saturday for the service.

MOTHER MARY EVELYN BARNES
The funeral service for Mother Mary Evelyn Barnes will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015, at 11 a. m. at the Brown Memorial Church of God in Christ, 2313 E. 27th Ave., Tampa, Bishop Matthew Williams is the pas- tor and will be officiating. In- terment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Cemetery.
Mother Mary Evelyn Barnes was born on March 23, 1940, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Oliver David and Ida Mae Rice.
She entered into eternal peace on Friday, August 28, 2015, in Tampa.
She was a strong woman in her faith in God. She was a member of Brown Memo- rial Church of God in Christ, where she served as one of the church’s Mothers, and she was an active member of the Christian Women’s Council.
She had previously served as the Sunday School Super- intendent, President of the Christian Women’s Council, and a member of the Board of Trustees at Rainbow Min- istries.
She was active in commu- nity services, including Bible Studies at the Well and vol- unteering at the Pregnancy Care Center. One of her fa- vorite scriptures was “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).
She was preceded in death by: her husbands, John and Wallace; along with her sib- lings, Robert, Wilma, Thelma, and Renee.
She leaves in her memory: children, Joseph Carr, Jenoyce Carr and Christo- pher Carr; four grandchil- dren, Johnathan Colon, Joshua (Nikki) Carr, Chris Carr Jr., and Aaron Carr; great granddaughter, A’Niyla Carr; and a host of nieces, nephews, stepchildren, and spiritual children.
The deceased will repose on Friday, September 4, 2015, at the Brown Memorial Church of God in Christ, from 5-8 p. m.

Mrs. Rosa Lee Brown of Tampa, passed away Thurs- day, August 27, 2015.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sep- tember 5, 2015, at 2 p. m. at First Baptist Church of West Tampa, 1302 N. Willow Av- enue, with Reverend Dr. Ray- ford Harper, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memo- rial Park Cemetery.
Rosa Lee Brown was born in Adrian, GA, and was a res- ident of Tampa for many years. She attended Hillsbor- ough County Schools.
She joined Faith Temple Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board and later joined First Baptist Church of West Tampa, under the leadership of Pastor Harper. The Browns were the origi- nal pioneers of Hyde Park.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Pulcher Brown; sons, Robert Lee Mc- Clinton, Sr. and Horace Brown; parents, Cecil Mc- Clinton and Alice Adell Palmer-Carter; her brothers, Willie Byrd, Eddie Dixon and Leonard Palmer; and sister, Audrey Carter.
She leaves to mourn her passing: son, Andrew Brown (Beverly); daughters, Brenda Livingston (L. V.), Janice Brown, Darlene Dukes (George), Dorothy Brown and Tonya McKenzie; grand- children, Antonio (Febby), LeShone, Katina, Antwan, Lorrie, Robert, Jr., Marcus, Corey, DeNorris, Rozell, Shirquila, Kewan, Larrod, Andrea, Carla, Shakonta, Rozasha, Shaniyah, and Sar- riyah; 28 great grandchil- dren and 16 great great grandchildren; goddaughter, Tammy Williams; godson, Oscar Green; sisters, Mamie Lucas and Rosa Mae McClen- don; brothers, Johnny Carter (Denise), Atterson Carter (Annabell), Nathan McClin- ton (Nikki), J. C. McClinton (Marilyn); sisters-in-law, Velma Wiggins and Bernice Dixon; brother-in-law, Atkin Brown (Lucille); daughter- in-law, Regina McClinton; as daughters, Tina Bryant, Remy DeVoe, and Sylvia Johnson-Greene; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins from the Brown, Mc- Clinton, Carter, Newman and Palmer families.
The remains will repose after 5 p. m., Friday, Septem- ber 4, 2015, at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue.
