Representative Sean Shaw Announces Candidacy For Florida Attorney General
TALLAHASSEE, FL – While standing with support- ers outside the Florida Supreme Court, Represen- tative Sean Shaw (D- Tampa) Tuesday announced his candidacy to be the next Attorney General for Florida.
“I am declaring my candi- dacy for Attorney General to uphold the rule of law, keep our state safe, and to protect the rights of Floridians,” pro- claimed Representative Sean Shaw.
“The citizens of our state deserve a true independent watchdog in the Attorney General’s office who will fight back when our Legislature passes unconstitutional laws and who will stand up for consumers against predatory corporations seeking to de- fraud or scam them. Raised in North Florida, Representative Sean Shaw was taught the importance of public service from a young age by his father, Leander Shaw, the first African- American Chief Justice of the
Florida Supreme Court. Dur- ing law school at Princeton, Rep. Shaw clerked for a United States District Court judge focusing on constitu- tional law and the protection of civil rights.
After law school, he worked in private practice representing workers, fami- lies, and small businesses during some of their most try- ing times. As Florida’s Insur- ance Consumer Advocate, Rep. Shaw was an insurance industry watchdog protecting consumers against the insur- ance industry. He led the process of negotiating lower rates for homeowners, pushed for faster response times from insurers after emergencies, and ensured rates were fair and justified.
He currently represents State House District 61 in Tampa.
Grant Workshops Planned
For January
The Center for Non-Profit and Community Develop- ment, Inc., will host the first two free professional grant- writing workshops of the year this month.
Both workshops will be held on at the Robert W. Saunders Public Library, 1505 N. Nebraska Avenue. Both will also be held from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
The first workshop will take place on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018.
Those in attendance will discuss “How To Start A 501c3 Nonprofit.” The sec- ond half of the workshop will focus on “Free Profes- sional Grant Writing Workshop.”
The 2nd workshop will take place on Monday, Jan. 29th. The topic of the session
is “How To Start A 501c3 Nonprofit.” The second half of the workshop will focus on “Free Professional Grant Writing Workshop.”
Those in attendance will also learn about: the different federal and state forms and applications required to form a 501c3 corporation; about developing a 5-year plan to attain funding and build your organizational capacity; what funders consider when fund- ing an organization; and how to prepare a grant proposal.
