ALANIS
This week’s Spotlight shines directly on the lovely Alanis. Alanis lights up every room she enters, and makes whoever is around her, a better person. Ala- nis has her sights set on something really big in the near future, and she promises everyone will know who she is no matter where her journeys take her. Alanis is ready for any and all challenges, and is grateful to have friends and family to lean on when things get rough. Congratulations to Alanis as this week’s Spot- light feature.
State Rep. Urges Residents To Apply For Disaster Unemployment Aid Program
On Wednesday, October 11th, Representa- tive Sean Shaw (D-Tampa) announced that the deadline for Federal disaster unemployment assis- tance to workers and the self-employed affected by Hurricane Irma has been extended for all Florida residents.
“Our residents are still feeling the impacts of Irma. This aid will not bring complete closure to everyone but, it is my hope that those who are able will take advantage of this opportunity.”
Residents can qualify for up to $275 per week for a maximum of 26 weeks according to Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity.
The deadline is Oct. 31 to file an application for disaster unemployment assistance for those whose work was lost or interrupted by the storm, accord- ing to the Department of Economic Opportunity.
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Worked or were self-employed or were sched-
uled to begin work or self-employment;
Do not qualify for regular unemployment ben- efits from any state; and due to the disaster: are not able to work or perform services because of physical damage or destruction to the place of em-
ployment as a direct result of the disaster; Cannot reach the place of employment as a di-
rect result of the disaster;
Cannot perform work or self-employment be-
cause of an injury caused as a direct result of the disaster.

5th Annual Central Park Village Reunion Planned
On Sunday, October 15th, the organizers of the Central Park Village Reunion Commit- tee will host their 5th Annual Reunion.
The theme for the reunion this year is, “Bridging the Gap: Central Avenue --- Central Park --- Encore!”
This year, it will be held at Rowlett Park, Shelter #218, from 12 noon until 6 p.m.

Health Organization To Host Meeting
Members of the Living Healthy in Your Community Support Group will host a Health Connections Council meeting. The event will take place Tuesday, October 17th, at Cyrus Greene Park, 2201 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd, beginning at 11 a.m.
Ms. Bardine Hicks, Pro- gram Coordinator for Senior Connection Center, Inc., said the meeting is for individuals over the age of 60. These indi- viduals are invited to attend the meeting to talk about the health needs and health con- cerns.
Lunch will be served fol- lowing the meeting. The event is free and open to the public. However, anyone wishing to attend the event is asked to contact Ms. Hicks at (813) 676-5448 to RSVP no later than Monday, October 16th.
