Tampa Bay Black History Class Begins Oct. 19th
A Tampa Bay Black His- tory Class will be held Thurs- day, October 19, 2017, 1 p. m. to 3 p. m. at East Tampa’s New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2511 E. Columbus Drive, in the Dr. Walter J. Williams Life Cen- ter.
The second and final ses- sion for the class will meet at the church Thursday, October 26, 1 to 3 p. m. The class is free for members of New Mt. Zion.
The interactive Black his- tory class will cover many of the significant activities and contributions involving African Americans since Spanish exploration began in Tampa Bay in 1528. The in- structor will be Fred Hearns, M.A., M.S.

Depending on interest, the class may be followed with a walking tour of the Historic Central Avenue Dis- trict Saturday, October 21, 10 a. m. to 12 noon. The walking tour is open to Black history class members and to both adults and children from the general public.

Connections Community Church Has One Church In Two Cities
Services at 2nd location begin in Hillsborough County on Wednesday, November 1, 2017
Connections Community Church was birthed in the heart of Senior Pastor Dr. Jeffery Johnson in 2011 in the city of Lake Wales, FL in Polk County. Pastor Johnson, before relocating to Tampa, in 2004, served as a pastor in the city of Lake Wales from 2001- 2003.
Since the inception of Connections Community Church, aka “Triple C,” the church thrives heavily upon an authentic community presence. In the city of Lake Wales they have become known as a church that of- fers: Resume Writing and Job Interviewing Skills Workshops, Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaways, Harvest

Each week Dr. John- son’s sermons and motiva- tional teachings are
broadcast live via Facebook and watched by thousands. His messages have garnered much support from the Tampa Bay community and those who have a desire to experience Connections Church, but are unable to drive weekly to Polk County.
Through much prayer, Connections Community Church has planted a second location in Hillsborough County. Services will be held every Wednesday night at 7 p. m. at 5100 N. Nebraska Avenue, starting November 1, 2017. The church will soon add a Sunday morning service in the Brandon area after the church grows from the Wednesday Night gath- erings.

USF College Of Public Health Offers Free Flu Shots

Flu Shot Drive on

20. Vaccines will be
administered on a
first-come, first-
served basis, from 8
a. m. to 4 p. m., or until supplies last.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recom- mends that everyone ages 6 months and older get a seasonal flu vaccine annually to reduce the risk of illness, including hos- pitalization.
This is the 21th year of the college’s flu shot drive for adults 18 and older. The longstanding community service is a collab- oration between the college, USF Health and the Hillsborough County Health Department, which will provide more than 1,000 doses of vaccines to help protect against this year’s flu strains.
Attendees can also visit with health exhibitors.
