WILSON
SISTER ALICE SANDERS NEWTON
A Celebration of Life Serv- ice for Sister Alice Sanders Newton will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Peace Pro- gressive Missionary Baptist Church, 2607 East 24th Avenue, Tampa, FL, at 11:00 a.m., Bishop Sylvester Robinson, Senior Pastor, Officiant, Rev- erend Steven G. Sanders, Sr., Eulogist. Interment will follow in Orange Hill Cemetery.
Sister Alice Marie “Rita” Sanders was born on Septem- ber 9, 1938, to the late Bishop Leroy and Mother Manicy Ed- wards Sanders in Bushnell, Florida. She was the third of 8 children. She was a graduate of Mills High School, Webster, Florida, Class of 1956.
She relocated to Tampa, FL in 1962, and thereafter joined the Peace Progressive Mission- ary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J. C. Goins. She was a devoted and faithful member until her health would not allow her to serve. She served in many ca- pacities at the church including Choir #2, Intermediate Mis- sion, Women’s Ministry, Food Bank and Culinary Ministry.
At an early age, her mother
instilled in her the value of a clean house, good cooking and fine baking. She used those skills to provide for herself and her family. She was employed by two generations of the Kearney families, the Mann and Stout families. “The cake lady” sweets were enjoyed by family, friends, the neighborhood, and the church.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Matthew New- ton; daughter, Melody V. Sanders; parents, Bishop Leroy and Mother Manicy Sanders; sis- ters, Pearlie McLaughlin, Gear- line Mobley and Velmatine Fraser; brother, Fred A. Sanders, Sr., sister-in-law, Alma Jean Sanders; brother-in-law, Booker T. McLaughlin; sister in Christ, Sister Alma Harris.
She leaves to cherish won- derful and loving memories that will live forever in the hearts of: her family and friends, devoted and loving daughter, Shelia L. Sanders, Esq.; loving grandchil- dren, Andrew Sanders and Crys- tal Sanders; 2 brothers, Bishop Percell Sanders, Sr., (LuGene), Evangelist Leroy Sanders, Jr.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Sanders; brother-in-law, Alphanso Fraser; great, great nephew, Vic- tor Ford, Jr.; goddaughter, Ce- celia Gavin (Joseph); friends, Mary Maddox; the Kearney, Kendrick, Robertson, Cochran and Toombs families, Betty Dawkins, Mattie Tisdell, the Northview Hills Community and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
There will be a viewing on Friday, April 22, 2022, from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m., at Wilson Fu- neral Home. Due to the current CDC restrictions; we are asking that you use the visitation as an opportunity to pay your final re- spect. For your convenience and safety, we have extended our vis- itation hours.
