TLC’s Former Manager Still Fighting To Clear Her Name; Judge Allows $40M Lawsuit To Continue
Ever since the VH1 biopic
“CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story” aired in 2013, Pebbles has been adamant about fight- ing back against what she calls an inaccurate portrayal of the events that led to the bank- ruptcy of the popular R&B trio, and she’s STILL at it.
According to Page Six, a fed- eral judge in Atlanta allowed Peri “Pebbles” Reid’s $40 million defamation lawsuit against Viacom to proceed after Viacom tried to stop it.
Reid’s lawyer Stacey God- frey Evans told Page Six, “We are thrilled with this major win against Viacom and look for- ward to justice . . . Ms. Reid
worked hard to ensure the suc- cess of TLC, and she is ready to present that story to a jury. The negative portrayal of her in the TLC movie is simply not the truth.”
Viacom also released a state- ment to Page Six: “‘CrazySexy- Cool’ was a docudrama about the experiences of the mem- bers of TLC told from their perspective. We are confident that our First Amendment rights to tell this story will ulti- mately be vindicated, although we are disappointed that the court chose not to dismiss the entire case on summary judg- ment.”
