Movie ‘Dope’ Opens Friday; Accepting Bitcoin For Tickets
The cast of Dope includes, Shameik Moore, Kiersey Clemons and Tony Revolori.
Director Rick Fa- muyiwa’s movie was touted as one of the best indie films this movie season.
Moviegoers can use Bit- coin—a type of digital cur- rency—as payment to score tickets to Dope, a coming of age comedy about a geeky high school senior named Malcolm (Shameik Moore), who uses the cryp- tocurrency to sell drugs anonymously.
Dope opens Friday (June 19). It’s the first film to ac- cept the controversial digital currency for ticket purchases, a move that studio execs call “cutting edge.”
Directed by Rick Fa- muyiwa, the film stars Moore as a ‘90s hip-hop ob- sessed geek who struggles to fit in at his Los Angeles high school. (Especially because he dreams of attending Har- vard.) But high school politics take second place in the film when Malcolm finds himself in possession of drugs, which he has to sell off in order to help a local dealer. Using his tech-savvy skills, Malcolm partners with BFFs Diggy (Kiersey Clemons) and Jib (Tony Revolori) to create an elaborate network with which to sell the drugs online.
Famuyiwa directed the film ‘Our Family Wedding’ starring Forest Whitaker. He has also been tapped to di- rect ‘Confirmation’, the HBO movie about Clarence Thomas's controversial Supreme Court confirmation hearing and media firestorm when Anita Hill testified that Thomas had sexually harassed her.
Kerry Washington, who is also producing, is al- ready onboard as Hill.
Pharrell was tapped for the soundtrack.

Janet Jackson probably caused scores of excited palpi- tations when she revealed she was recording in the studio again.
The 49-year-old hitmaker got hearts beating faster on Monday when she announced she will kick off a world tour this summer in support of Un- breakable, her first album in seven years.
Janet is set to perform 36 dates in 32 cities, beginning on August 31 in Vancouver, Canada with her first U.S. show slated for September 11 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Unbreakable World Tour will continue on through No- vember 12, it's final show in Honolulu, Hawaii, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Janet's fans shouldn't be disappointed - the Rhythm Nation singer can always be counted on to put on a sizzling and eye-catching act.
