MRS. AGAREE JOHN PETERMAN YOUNG 12/17/1919 —- 11/29/2015
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Mrs. Agaree John Peter- man Young passed quietly at her residence on November 29th. She passed 18 days before her 96th birthday of natural causes.
One of her grandsons, Ran- dall Peterman, her caregiver said, “I thank God I was al- lowed to see after her in her old age.”
Although Mrs. Young was the mother of R. L. Pe- terman, the last remaining member of the gospel group known as “R. L. Peterman and the Heavenly Trumpets.” He is her only child, but he is the fa- ther of 13 children. Her grand- son said his father is now 81-years-old and in declining health.
Mrs. Young and her son are longtime members of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church.
A native of Enterprise, Ala- bama, Mrs. Young moved to Tampa in the 1940s. The fam- ily settled in the Thonotosassa area, and raised most of their food on the property.
As the family grew, Peter- man said, Mrs. Young, who was a homemaker, was unable to purchase gifts for everyone. So her gift to the family was preparing special meals for the holidays.
“She loved to cook and that was her way of bringing the family together. I called her “Queen Mother,” and every- one went to her house for the holidays.”
He further said his grand- mother was so independent. “She drove until she was in her early 90s. She was a handful,” he said.
Mrs. Young became a widow in 2006 and Peter- man said he became her care- giver about two years later.
She is survived by her son, 13 grandchildren, and several other family members and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Young will be held on Satur- day, December 5th. Harmon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
