Tampa Police said at 7:23 p. m. Thursday, a pickup truck was stolen at gunpoint in the 9500 block of 9th Street, North. After a three-minute pursuit, the truck ran into a ditch and a sus- pect fled on foot, but was later caught.
Christopher Alex Thomas, Jr., 22, is now facing charges of armed carjacking/robbery, being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, re- sisting arrest without violence, driving without a license, and aggravated fleeing to elude.
Records show that Thomas had served a little over two years in state prison on charges of ag- gravated assault with a weapon and leaving a crash with injury. He was released March 9th.
Police said Thomas pointed a gun at Ronald Walker, 56, who was getting out of the truck. Thomas reportedly demanded cash and since he didn’t get any, he fled in the truck.
Officers spotted the truck at 30th Street and East Linebaugh and tried to stop it, but the driver continued south on 30th Street, then east on Yukon Street. Less than a mile later, the driver lost control, overcor- rected and ended up in a ditch. Thomas was arrested after offi- cers found him hiding in a back- yard not far from the truck.
