Movie Reviews/Soaps/Horoscopes
Spectre - James Bond (Daniel Craig) goes under- cover to battle a sinister or- ganization (Spectre - Christoph Waltz), while M (Ralph Fiennes) fights polit- ical forces to keep the secret service alive. This Bond film doesn’t compare to ‘Skyfall’ and this is the first Craig’s Bond movie his face doesn’t get bruised after all the crashes and fighting. 2 hrs. /30 mins. long. Still action- packed. No. 1 at box office. Made $79M U. S. / Foreign $219M. (Budget 245M). ***1⁄2
The Peanuts Movie - Snoopy embarks on his greatest mission with his crew to take to the skies to pursue their enemies. Char- lie Brown begins his own quest back home. Might be the best Snoopy/ Charlie Brown film. Kids will defi- nitely like this animation. Made $44M. (Budget $99M). ****
Sicario - An FBI agent (Emily Blunt) is enlisted by an elected government Task Force (Benicio Del Toro) to help fight against the Mexi- can Drug Cartel. This thriller is definitely worth-seeing. Made $43M. (Budget $30M). ****
The Last Witch Hunter - The last witch hunter (Vin Diesel) fights against the most vicious witches in history. Had po- tential to be a good film, but fell short big time. Elijah Woods (Frodo-Lord of the Rings) also stars. Made $23M. (Budget N/A). **
Goosebumps - A teenager (Dylan Minnette) hooks up with the daughter (Odeya Rush) of horror au- thor R. L. Stine (Jack Black) after the writer’s imaginary monsters are set free on the town. Definitely a must-see for teens. Made $66M. (Budget $58M). ***1⁄2
Bridge Of Spies - Di- rected by Steven Spielberg, this film is about an Ameri- can lawyer (Tom Hanks) who is recruited by his law firm and the CIA during the Cold War to help rescue a pilot and student in the So- viet Union. This movie was well-written, but moved real slow in action. If you like Tom Hanks, go see. If not, wait for DVD. Made $54M. (Budget $40M). ***
The Walk - Based on a true story in 1974, high-wire artist Phillippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) recruits a team to help him realize his dream of walking across the World Trade Center. It took an hour before this film be-
came interesting. Petit had to be insane to actually try and pull this high-wire act off. Made $9M. (Budget $35M). ***
The Martian - After a re- search mission on Mars (which takes 4 years to get there), Astronaut Mark Wat- ney (Matt Damon) is pre- sumed dead by his crew after a fierce sand storm. The crew had to leave him to save themselves. Watney survives and then has to rely on his wit and spirit to sur- vive on the planet without food. Well-written sci-fi thriller. Surprisingly, very good. 2 hrs. /10 mins. long. Made $196M. (Budget $108M). ****
Hotel Transylvania 2 - Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) and his friends try to bring out the monster in his half human grandson to keep his daughter Mavis from leaving the hotel. Kids will enjoy this animation. Made $161M. (Budget N/A). ***1⁄2
Everest (2015) - Based on a true story, a climbing expedition (Jason Clark, Josh Broslin) is caught on Mt. Everest by a severe snow storm. The crew has to try all means to survive. Made $42M. (Budget $55M). ***
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials - After hav- ing escaped the difficult Maze, the Gladers (Dylan O’Brien, Ki Hong Lee, Dex- ter Darden, Thomas Sanster and Kaya Scodelario) now face a new set of craziness once they flee to the desolate landscape. I thought the first movie was very good and different, but this one was more intense with non-stop action. Must-see! Made $79M. (Budget $61M). ****
The Visit - Two young children (Olivia DeJonge, Ed Oxenbould) visit their grandparents (Deanna Dunagan, Peter McRobbie) and soon find out that things in their grandparent’s lives are very creepy. The Perfect Guy - A cor- porate executive (Sanaa Lathan) breaks up with her boyfriend (Morris Chestnut) and soon gets involved with a man (Michael Ealy) who seems almost too good to be true.
