Record 16 Freshmen Selected In First Round Of NBA Draft
MARKELLE FULTZ AND LONZO BALL
Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball
and the future of the NBA arrived Thursday night.
Jimmy Butler and Tom Thibodeau hope to rekindle their past.
Fultz and Ball led a record- setting run of one-and-dones in the NBA draft, which received a jolt early in the first round when the Chicago Bulls traded Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Philadelphia 76ers took Fultz with the No. 1 pick and the Lakers followed by taking Ball, with the point guards from the Pac-12 Conference beginning a run of seven straight freshmen. Nine of the first 10 selections played just one season of college ball.
No. 1 Pick In NBA Markelle Fultz Didn't Make Varsity Team As Sophomore
MARKELLE FULTZ
Listen up kids. The Philadel- phia 76ers No.1 Markelle Fultz was cut in his sophomore year from the varsity team. Just like Micheal Jordan. DeMatha Catholic boys basketball coach Mike Jones remembers sitting down with a mother and her son in 2013, delivering news that he knew wouldn't sound good to the young athlete.
Jones explained his thinking to the family, telling them that the DeMatha varsity basketball team was already loaded, and that he didn't want the promising guard to wilt on the bench behind tal- ented teammates. DeMatha is a basketball powerhouse, consis- tently cycling through a long list of top prospects and Division I prospects. There just wasn't room for consistent minutes at the guard position.
That was how Markelle Fultz, future University of Wash- ington star and No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, didn't make the cut on his school's varsity team as a sophomore.
Fultz stated, "Being cut made me work harder to show make the team and coach that he made a mistake."

LeBron James Not Planning To Leave Cavs
There has been a lot of talk about LeBron James poten- tially leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers when he is eligible to opt out of his contract next summer, but one NBA re- porter says that talk is very premature.
According to Chris Brous- sard of FOX Sports, LeBron currently has no plans to bail on the Cavs.
That isn’t going to stop the speculation. LeBron left the Cavs once in pursuit of cham- pionships, and there’s no rea- son to believe he won’t do it again if he feels he has a better shot at capturing more rings elsewhere.
For now, the Cavs remain the best team in the Eastern Conference. They clearly have some work to do if they want to contend with the Golden State Warriors, but it’d be

tough to imagine LeBron finding a much better situa- tion. He’ll likely focus his at- tention on getting Cleveland to add another top player this offseason.
As he has done in the past, LeBron will use his contract situation as leverage to make sure the Cavs make the roster moves he wants them to make. If they don’t, he could end up exploring free agency in a year.
#LeBronJamesChallenge Is New viral Social Media Craze
LeBron James didn’t wait long after the NBA Finals to get back on social media — or back in the gym. Three days after the Warriors finished off the Cavaliers in Game 5, Le- Bron posted an Instagram video of himself working out and celebrating his new bald head.
James danced and sang along to Tee Grizzley’s track, “First Day Out.” The video was funny for a number of reasons:
James’ bald-headedness, his shirtless dancing and singing, and the fact that he seemed so unbothered by the Warriors’ Finals victory.
It was such an odd and hi- larious video, in fact, that oth- ers weren’t content with letting it fade away. They de- cided to mimic it and post their own versions.
And now the #LeBron- JamesChallenge is in full swing.
Marcus Camby Being Sued Over Death Of His Nephew
Former NBA star Marcus Camby, who played for six teams including the New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets, is being sued over the November 2016 death of his nephew.
The Houston Chronicle re- ports that Marcus Carter McGhee has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court, Galveston Division against Camby after his nine-year-old son died in Camby’s care while visiting from Connecticut.
While visiting Camby over Thanksgiving break, the boy, whom McGhee said was autistic and required continu- ous adult supervision, was playing with other children in Camby’s yard when he went missing. After a two-day search, he was found deceased

in a pond on Camby’s prop- erty.
Shortly after the death of his nephew, Camby released the following statement:
“While the outcome was tragic, the outpouring of sup- port has truly touched us all. If God forbid, something like this happens to another family in our community, my family will be front and center with assis- tance,” Camby said.
