Tea Time For Mothers
Blake Students Celebrate A Year Of Accomplishments At Event
And Daughters Event

On Saturday, May 14th, New Destiny Height, Incor- porated, and their dream team, will be hosting their first annual “Tea Time for Mothers and Daughters Em- powering Family Unity” event from 11 a. m. to 3 p.m. at the Robert Saunders, Sr. Public Library.
New Destiny Height, Inc. was founded by Paulette Walker, and with her sup- port team of Dr. Erika Bethune, Teddi Harris, Sheryl Kelly, Atty. Shaunette Stokes, and Katina McClinton, their mission is to narrow the gap and provide children in the Tampa Bay area with prepa- ration and resources they need to succeed in the facet of life.
The organization also wants to make a difference in today’s misguided society, and come up with a solution to stop so many young peo- ple being buried by their par- ents due to violence.

will be Sharmaine Burr, the Director of Social Serv- ices at ECHO of Brandon. Former media personality, Ebone Cruz will make a presentation on balancing harmony and the commu- nity, and author and Tampa native, Veronica Blakely will be the keynote speaker.
This tea party is just for mothers and daughters, ages 8-to-15, and for more infor- mation, please call (813) 924- 0290.
All daughters are asked to wear their finest dress, and their mother’s pearls.

Creative Writing Senior, Cassidy Scott won a $2,000 scholarship.
Lyrik Courtney won a scholarship in the amount of $2,500.
This has been an exciting year for the entire Creative Writing Program at Howard W. Blake High School. The program is led by author and writing teacher, Mrs. Casey Curry.
Blake’s Creative Writing Senior, Cassidy Scott has won a $2,000 Arts for Life Scholarship and will receive her award on June 16th at the Adrienne Arsht Center for Performing Arts Center in Miami, Florida.
Blake Junior Creative Writing student, Lyrik Courtney has won a $2,500 Art Stars Scholarship and will perform winning poetry and receive her award on May 11th at 5:30 p. m., at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg.
The Seniors will celebrate the publication of their chap- books, sell and sign their in- dividual books at the Senior
Reading: Poetry and Chill.
This event will be held at Blake High School in the Black Box Theater on Friday, May 6th at 7 p. m. There will be a reception at 6:30. Ad- mission is free and open to the public.
The ninth grade students won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for poetry in the Hillsborough County Teachers of English (HCTE) annual writing con- test; competed in the state Poetry Out Loud recitation contest held at USF this year and traveled to Jacksonville to the Douglas Anderson Writer’s Festival to hear President Obama’s sec- ond Inaugural Poet, Richard Blanco.
They attended writing workshops with several fa- mous writers, including poet, Jamal May and had the op- portunity to share their work as well.
The students in the Cre- ative Writing magnet pro- gram at Blake High School audition with a portfolio of their writing samples and take two classes with Mrs. Curry, each of their four years in high school. They host three performances each year where they share their original poetry and prose. The students also pub- lish the award winning liter- ary magazine, Synapse and individual chapbooks their senior year.

Meeting
Middleton High Class Of 1966 To Meet
Members of the Middleton High School Class of 1966 are en- couraged to attend the class meeting on Saturday, May 7, 2016, 1:30 p. m. The meeting will be held at the C. Blythe Andrews, Jr. Branch Library, 2607 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
It is an important meeting to continue discussing plans for the 50th class reunion planned for June 25th.
