this time. We will be there to support and assist you in each step of the decision process.
Transporting the Full Body or Cremated Remains
We have extensive experience in shipping caskets and urns to other provinces or countries for burial. If you require international transportation, please advise us as soon as the death has occurred so we can begin making arrangements with the appropriate authorities.
In the case of transporting a full body it is advisable to give at least a week until the body is received at the final destination. Complying with the requirements of other jurisdictions as well as our own provinces legislation takes time.
The Obituary
You may want to notify others through creating an obituary which may be posted by Devlin Funeral Home (at no charge) in the “Obituaries” section of our website. You may also choose to have it printed in the newspaper. Each newspaper has a different deadline.
At the time this book was published the deadline for the Coast Reporter is Tuesdays by noon if you want to see a print copy of the obituary that will go out in Friday’s paper.
The following information is customarily included in an obituary:
• Full name of the deceased (a nickname could also be included)
• City or town of residence
• Some indication of the nature of the
death – such as, “suddenly”, or “after
a long illness”
• List of immediate family members
of the deceased, specifying if they are alive or dead, through the terms “deceased was pre-deceased by his
sister...” or “is survived by his wife” • Location and time for funeral service
or celebration
• Any memorable way of honouring
the deceased such as personal achievements, education, hobbies and interests etc.
Designing a Ceremony
Whether it is formal or informal, traditional or unconventional, a funeral, or celebration of life provides an opportunity for family and friends to gather and support one another in the beginning of their healing journey. A service can take place in any setting: in a sacred place, at your home, outdoors, at one of the many beautiful facilities we have on the sunshine coast or at our facility. The celebration or service can incorporate music, art, or anything you see fit. There are endless possibilities for what the service can be, and we are honoured to go above and beyond in our duty to meet your personalized and specific requests. Our staff is experienced at accommodating your choices. We meet the needs of all beliefs, faiths, lifestyles and relationships. We are here to help configure and realize your vision. Further, we encourage you to take the time you need to decide how to best honour your loved one and incorporate the elements that you and your family find meaningful.
Service Options
Sometimes the thought of planning a funeral seems too difficult for those who have suffered a loss. We are here to lighten your burden and remind you of the true value a ceremony can hold for you and your family.
