Cremation Services
Everyone finds closure and copes with loss in their own way. For many, this means including viewings and visitations in the grieving process. Whether you choose burial or cremation, this can be a fundamental part of your tribute. Before the cremation, through viewings and even a reception, you can honour the life and spirit of your loved one.
One of the biggest misconceptions about cremation is that you cannot have a ceremony or visitation. This is not the case; when you choose cremation, we encourage you to consider holding a memorial service for the survivors to start the grieving process with community support. There are many options open to you when it comes to honouring your loved one’s life: you can provide a chance for friends and family to say goodbye through a final viewing before the cremation and you can also hold a formal service either before or after the cremation occurs.
After the cremation itself, there is still a choice to be made as to your loved one’s final disposition. The options we offer include interment, graveside services, scattering, releasing a journey urn out to sea, keepsake urns, jewelry urns, and fingerprint jewelry. Interment is the burial or entombment of your loved ones cremated remains. This can be in the family plot, a cremation niche, or in a variety of other indoor and outdoor locations.
• A Committal Service can be held at the Devlin Funeral Home prior to the cremation. This is a time that allows family and friends to be present with the body and a blessing just prior to the cremation.
• Presence for the cremation is a service where the loved ones are in the crematorium and are able to witness the body entering the retort
(cremation machine) and have the option to turn on the switch that begins the cremation if anyone so wishes.
• Graveside Services are similar to those celebrated alongside a traditional ground burial in which loved ones are present at the burial of the cremated remains and honour the deceased through memorial prayers or other meaningful tributes.
• Scattering allows you to spread your loved ones cremated remains in a cemetery, setting the urn out to sea or across any other meaningful site. You can also choose to scatter some of the cremated remains and retain the rest in an urn for interment or another form of disposition.
• Holding cremated remains in one or multiple urns allows for the loved one to be in a location the family can be close to. In cases where members are separated by distance, multiple urns can bring each family member the comfort of having their loved one’s final resting place in a nearby location. In cases where the family is proximate, or where the loved one had a preference the remains can stay in one place. Offering a collection of keepsakes, jewelry, and specialized urns, we want to help you hold on to the cherished memories of your loved one. Please ask us the details of what we offer, including specialized fingerprint jewelry.
Burial Services
There are different elements you can choose from when arranging a burial, depending upon your individual needs and preferences:
• Immediate burial means that your loved one’s physical remains will be buried or entombed without a public service or gathering.
